A week has already almost passed since one of the greatest stunts performed in Malta hit the news. The idea was simple enough, strip down to shorts, singlet and hat, slap some sunscreen on (with an adequate SPF of course) and sunbathe in the most unlikely locations on the island of Malta.
Forget the dozens of beaches and poolside areas! Mastermind Cedric Vella wanted something different! ZARA’s shop in the heart of snobby Sliema was one of the victims of the prank, although more than a little attention must have been diverted to the shop itself, so no harm no foul there! A pedestrian crossing at Malta International Airport also received the same treatment, but I’m sure that reactions there were substantially cooler than those at the ultimate location, in front of the Law Courts in the capital Valletta.
The extremely poor video shot by the Times can be seen here: http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20100730/local/all-in-the-name-of-a-joke, but to enjoy the prank in all its grandeur, I suggest you watch the video below:
I just happen to have a short statement from the man of the hour himself, who explained his twofold reasons for pulling off this unorthodox idea:
In his typical brief style, here’s what Cedric had to say
“My intentions were two
1. To make people laugh
2. To challenge norms. I wanted to see how people react if you put something in a different context than what is considered normal. I didn’t do anything wrong or totally out of this world, yet some people were shocked by this behaviour. That alone should get you thinking about our mentality as a people.”
Like what you see? Well then subscribe to Cedric’s youtube channel, where with the help of Mauro Busuttil (who shot the video while Cedric baked in the sun), he should be bringing more surprises to you soon! And if you need any video work done, Cedric is the guy to speak to. I vouch for him, he can edit video professionally, and at your insistence, will leave his swimming trunks at home.
