to have a bubble:
As in “Are you having a bubble bath?” From “Are you having a laugh?” in Cockney.
I read Fr Peter Serracino Inglott’s little column with a benign name on The Sunday Times with some regularity, and much like with stirrings of the bowel, I never fail to become aware of a huge shit masquerading somewhere.
Today I was made aware of Serracino Inglott’s grand contribution to the divorce debate (or brawl), here in Malta. The Times summed it up in this way:
“Divorce should be permitted if it is scientifically proven that society is better off with it than without it.”
Fr Peter Serracino Inglott
Of course Peter. Whatever you say. How about we don’t talk about science and talk about the pseudo philosophical notions you pass on to us mere mortals every Sunday? Sorry, that’s not the argument.

I stroke balls
Smoking is scientifically proven to be harmful. Alcohol is scientifically proven to be harmful. Stress is scientifically proven to be harmful. See a pattern here? We allow all of these things, don’t we? I can smoke, drink and stress till the rapture, yet no one will bat an eyelid at me.
Don’t talk science to us Peter because I’ll quote double blind tests until your ears bleed. You want scientifically proven? Prove, with a scientific study, that religion and prayer actually do help people cope with daily stress more than smoking and drinking do, and I’ll rescind this post.
And if you are going to talk science, how about we get scientifically serious about a few of the Church’s mysteries? Ah, I forgot, science and religion can live together harmoniously, as long as the former does not disrupt or undermine the latter with impertinent and irreverent questions. I always forget that it’s called a leap of faith because it’s a dive off a cliff.

scientifically, it is not proven God exists. Scientifically, the Church killed Galileo. Scientifically, they’ve no idea how to tackle responses.

Comparing divorce to smoking and drinking?? and explaining the quoted text incorrectly??
“Divorce should be permitted if it is scientifically proven that society is better off with it than without it.”
PSI did not ask if divorce is harmful to YOU specifically or to the person obtaining a divorce… but to society in general
Karl Agius
@JohnM -- So you say smoking and drinking are NOT harmful to society in general?

Alle haben mir davon schon erzählt, jetzt weiß ich warum

There many studies about the positive effects of religion on health. Sure some are controversial but the body of evidence would crush absolutely anything available to suggest that smoking and drinking can help you cope with stress.
