The internet is much like comedian George Carlin in two ways, in that it is here to entertain and instruct. Today’s selection of stuff I come across does a bit of both.
jamesvandermemes.com
Jamesvandermemes.com is a website dedicated to actor James Van Der Beek, made eternally famous by the series Dawson’s Creek. What’s different is the name, which is a play on what happens often on the internet, something becoming a meme. And what’s a meme without an animated GIF as testament to it?

An awkward meme
Whatever emotion you’re looking for by way of reply to any statement online, you’ll find an animated James on Jamesvandermemes.com. Shame the timesofmalta.com doesn’t allow images in comments.
The Daily What
thedailywh.at is exactly what it says it is, a website you check daily and go ‘Whaaaaat?’ at. Sometimes it’s by way of a cringe, other times instead of an overused LOL.
For example, try this one for a comparison of zombies and supermodels, or this one, inspired by the recent censorship of Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”.
Wikipedia
Wikipedia is awesome, everyone knows that. I love it best when I find pages like this one, a list of common misconceptions, especially this set: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_common_misconceptions#Evolution.
And by the way, on January 15, 2011, Wikipedia will turn 10. You can read about the celebrations here: http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Old adverts from Malta
I stumbled across this 42 strong collection of old adverts from Malta in a Google Doc. They’re pretty fascinating, take this one, for a dentist who accepted ‘difficult jobs’. You can see them all here: http://bit.ly/e1HgKG
HipsterHitler
Don’t worry, I haven’t turned into a right wing nut yet. I did turn into a dribbling fool from the sheer hilarity of this website, in which the world’s best known evil doer, Adolf Hitler, is depicted as a hipster, complete with obscure band fandom, skin tight jeans and a penchant for the underground and zee artistic. For example, my favourite short comic with HipsterHitler, one about a particular typewriter:
If you like this kind of humour (I know, I know it’s not for everyone, though I fail to see why), head over to hipsterhitler.com, and pick me up an Arcade Führer t-shirt. Vielen Dank.
humanleather
Yeps, you read right, human leather. And no, this has absolutely nothing to do with hipster Hitler, although I think real Hitler may have done this one too. This is lifted directly from their site: We are specialists in producing exquisite and exclusive products for an extremely discerning clientele. All products are carefully hand-crafted by experienced master craftsmen, with years of experience in handling the finest leather known – human leather.

I use Nivea so I can become a Prada bag when I die
Well, that caption isn’t entirely true, humanleather.co.uk don’t offer to make bags out of people’s skin, although you’d think that making little key-chain bags from dead guys would be quite simple. They do make shoes, wallets and belts. I wonder if you can beat your kids with that belt and blame it on the previous owner of the skin.
Seriously though, if you have around Euro 9000 to splurge on a wallet, I know a few people I wouldn’t mind skinning alive for you. All in the name of science and fashion of course.
Have you recently come across something original, disturbing, sick or downright funny on the internet? Or perhaps you’ve created something yourself. Contact me and if I like it I’ll feature it here. Needless to say, your home made pornos won’t be featured, although I’ll watch every frame.

Zeppu
Honestly, I’d be more worried about turning into a hipster than turning into a right wing nut.
