Awkward moments at the Malta Eurovision 2011

As much as I hate the Eurovision, my New Year’s Resolution was to at least make the effort of watching the songs in mute. I don’t watch TV, so I missed the initial airing of the 24 Maltese finalists on PBS on Friday, but the surprisingly excellent website maltaeurovision2011 had all 24 videos on their YouTube channel.

Watching the videos in mute brought a new kind of entertainment to me, a fascination with momentary apparitions, by which I mean freeze framing and screenshots. I also let my imagination run wild with what the songs were actually about, and since I watched in mute it could be anything I liked it to be. These were the worst moments of the 24 Maltese finalists, literally, with a lyrical snapshot in the caption.

Note: If you are looking for a mature musical assessment or critique of this year’s contestants, you’re in the wrong place. I’ve tried that before and it worked only partially. I think this will work better in the great scheme of things.

The chances of you being paid for your idea are as close as that of Malta winning the Eurovision in Germany this year.
