4 sites that entertained me recently

It’s not easy being online, with the entire world just keystrokes away, at least figuratively. Especially when you work online, you start to realise that you live and work, and play on the internets, and very soon you even start considering buying a Sherry Turkle book and attempt to reverse the tide. Luckily the internets throws you a bone immediately, normally in the form of something that entertains you for a few minutes. Here are the bottles that landed on my beach recently.

The unofficial Daphne Caruana Galizia Insultometer

This week saw Daphne get sued again, twice. Naturally, this piqued my interest, and few cursory searches after, I found this.

It is exactly what it says it is, an insultometer for all the barbs Daphne dishes out on the regular, all neatly organised according to category of insult, for example Bestiality, Cannon Fodder or The ‘Different’ Ones. Don’t worry, Bestiality is not really what you thought.

One catch to this though; the last post was published on June 5, 2008. Which is a pity, because as fascinating as going through 2 or 3 year old insults is, nothing would compare with a real time updated and organised feed of the torrent that Daphne has been recently. Don’t believe me? Read Daphne’s recent blog posts yourself and you’ll see.

Ġandir Malta – Aħbarijiet tan-nejk minn Malta

Perhaps this one doesn’t count outright, as it is a Facebook Fan page not a website. However, it’s a real gem if you read Maltese and get the Maltese sense of humour, by which I don’t mean the farce à la Gawdenz Bilocca, rather that ill veiled cynism we are as yet unknown for. Example:

Or else:

It’s great, especially if you’ve just been swearing at that particular news story yourself. All of a sudden you’ll feel a comforting wave of love around you; you are not alone, it’s not just you that sees things this way. ‘Like’ and enjoy the stream of ridiculous news from Malta.

Wikipedia on the 2010–2011 Arab world protests

Are you confused with the current tide of civil disobedience and outright riots happening in so many countries right now? You’re not alone, and let’s face it, any hashtag is only any good until the first spammer gets on it.

So how about a somewhat reliable source of information to keep you abreast of which holiday nation to avoid this winter? Wikipedia takes central space here. Check out the 2010–2011 Arab world protests page on Wikipedia, neatly organised and narrated in a clear and easy to understand manner.

Does not include flights diverted to Malta

Billy Bullshit

BillyBullshit says it is a “A compendium of complete and utter bollocks from out of the mouths of idiots…” and it does not fail. Ever heard of the guy who got banned from every church in the UK, because he was an ‘atheist Jew’? Or the guy who was late for school because he stumbled across Cindy Crawford whilst out on his milk round? Or perhaps the guy who while marvelously drunk loudly stated that he had had 90% of his stomach removed because he once drank poison and since then he has never been able to get drunk.

Yeah, you probably haven’t, and it’s probably because it’s bullshit. Sworn to exposing bullshit stories like the above, BillyBullshit does not disappoint. Check it out and subscribe, I swear it will make you laugh. And if you want to know how they weed bullshit stories out, you’ll have to believe their About page which says: “…don’t try making them up – we got our bullshit detector from NASA when we used to work there as test pilots for a special rocket that was going to burrow through the earth from England to Australia.”
