Let’s admit it, the most interesting part about the TimesofMalta.com site is the comments. The Times of Malta is hardly a place to go to read the Maltese or International News. The articles are biased, their syntax is extremely poor, their titles are extremely misleading and often politically incorrect and recently they have made a very poor attempt at online advertising.
Unfortunately I admit that I have found myself wasting time reading these comments and today this has resulted in a list of 5 chronic types of commenters found on the Times of Malta. Oh I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to offend these outstanding citizens, who of course, aren’t really commenters. In their world, they’re bloggers. In the same that a Facebook note is a blog.
1: The Gonzi Hater
This is the one who blames everything on the government and more specifically Gonzi. Anything Gonzi says or does is wrong, not because Gonzi is actually right or wrong but because the commenter is clearly a Labour supporter. There is nothing rational in these comments, it is just: “foxx Gonzi if Muscat was leader everyone would shit roses”, or
2: The racist
No matter the incident, the topic or the actual reality of the story, to the ‘racist’, the immigrants are always to blame. If there is a girl raped in Paceville, the comment would be ‘All these blacks and Libyans in this country obviously this will happen…”
3: The Know-Better
‘The Know-Better’, will save the cheerleader and save the world! They will justify their arguments, present researched facts, post a 500 word comment with flawless punctuation, build perfect scenarios and present their proposal as if they are looking for a job.
4: The Mother Theresa/Padre Pio
No matter the argument or context of the article, the ‘Mother Theresa/ Padre Pio’ commenter, in all their virtual and spiritual authority, will forgive other commenters for their sinful ideals, tell them to go pray and finally, yes, depart with a ‘God bless you’.
5: The return emigrant
Everything is better abroad and the ‘return emigrant’ will tell you so: “I’ve lived in Canada and the US, so I know exactly what you’re doing wrong, and I’ll tell you so, but given you’re an ignorant little islander, you won’t understand my big country wisdom.”
So, my personal recommendation is, go to timesofmalta.com > pick random article > scroll all the way down past the article > read comments. Enjoy.

…and you forgot about the geniuses without degrees, like the architects (when commenting on mepa-related issues) and the F1 engineers (when commenting about traffic accidents)!!
